Top Political Moments of 2025
With the second Trump Administration in full force, 2025 has been extremely packed full. Some of the most important moments are heavy and will weigh on our hearts for decades to come. Some were hilarious and brought us some brief moments of joy.
See below Free Press Fails’ Top Political Moments of 2025:
10. Melania Trump’s Inaugural Hat
Melania’s sartorial choices are underappreciated by the lame stream media but they didn’t miss this accessory. The hat says: revenge. It says: try and cross me. It says: Im back, b*tches. I would not cross that hat let alone the stunning eastern European woman stoically menacing beneath the hat. This hat says: try to kill my family again and see what happens to you.
9. “Governor Hotwheels”
Jasmine Crockett called Texas Governor Greg Abbott “Governor Hotwheels” this year in definitely one of the funniest moments of 2025. Actually that entire speech was nothing but gold. People got mad about it and Crockett backtracked saying she wasn’t referring to the fact that Abbott was in a wheelchair. She never apologized which tbh shows what a savvy political candidate she is. She needs to be taken seriously in the Texas Senate campaign
8. The roller coaster love story of Elon Musk and the Trump Admin
Elon Musk campaigned for Trump and started out strong as the leader of DOGE looking for government efficiencies alongside Trump. But something soured midway through the year. I don’t know if it was because Trump didn’t like Elon’s NASA pick or if he was tired of some of Elon’s cut suggestions which were controversial or something personal and different. I do know rumor has it that at one point Elon and Treasury Secretary Bessent were brought to fisticuffs in the Oval Office. And this is the energy which makes politics interesting. Elon and Trump had a very public falling out where Elon accused Trump of being a pedophile (which is wild since he had his own young son with Trump several times).
Late this year, the two reunited at the funeral of Charlie Kirk and seem to be on better terms. Love is a messy thing.
This relationship also produced the “everything’s computer” quote from President Trump which is a big fan favorite.
7. Donald Trump attending the Super Bowl
Donald Trump became the first President in history to attend the Super Bowl which shocked literally everyone who would have sworn that every President has always gone (apparently not). This collective Mandela effect plus the iconic cheering and support for the President at the big game is worthy of this list.
6. The rise of Marco Rubio
Marco Rubio is now in charge of several high profile federal agencies not least of which is is role of Secretary of State. Anyone watching the political arena would never have guessed that Marco Rubio would go from “water gate” (where he really awkwardly drank that water in the State of the Union counteraddress) to disastrously running against President Trump in 2016 (RuBAEo was a good campaign bit though) to becoming one of the nation’s most respected and beloved officials who bridges gaps between all sides of the Republican spectrum. Marco Rubio is one of the most trusted advisors to President Trump and also he appeals to the old school wing of the party who misses when we lost every election (like Mitt Romney). He’s been the subject of countless loving memes including the one pictured when he was exhausted by Zelensky. 2025 was the year of Rubio’s rise and we are HERE for it.
5. Spencer Pratt becoming Gavin Newsom’s most formidable foe
Spencer Pratt, of reality show fame, took mostly to TikTok to take on Gavin Newsom and Karen Bass in their gross mishandling of the Palisades Fire (Jan 2025) which left thousands of people homeless including Spencer and his wife (Heidi Pratt, also famous) and family. This unlikely hero has risked his career and livelihood which relies on LA liberals to take on the corruption of the California liberal government which opted to protect plants over people (and failed at both) mishandled water reservoirs and then wasted hundreds of millions of dollars meant to rebuild the area. Spencer Pratt might just be the biggest barrier to Gavin Newsom becoming President of the United States. And I love that for us.
4. Nicki Minaj coming out as a Trump admin ally
Nicki Minaj is one of the most successful recording artists of the last two decades and a cultural icon. She began slowly dipping her feet into political waters over the last several years revealing her opinions about controversial subjects and expressing a willingness to hear out President Trump. This year, she went all in. She met with the Trump admin to appeal on behalf of Christians being murdered in Nigeria and the Trump admin came through including a Christmas strike on muslim terrorist groups in Nigeria. Nicki in return has become a full blown ally. She even appeared at Turning Point USA along with Erika Kirk to talk about the need for intervention to protect Christians around the world. Its one of those great stories about how the tent is big and core issues can unify any of us no matter our demographics, histories or lenses.
3. J.D. Vance meme
The origins of the meme are unclear to me but I think someone trying to mock J.D. Vance made a meme of him looking fat and silly with weird curly hair. Of course, conservatives loved it the most. It took off and now appears regularly in conservative online comedy and J.D. Vance himself dressed as the meme for Halloween. Its really the gift that keeps on giving. It’s never not funny.
2. Kristi Noem’s “leave now” video and deportation broadly
2025 is the year that America finally has taken its immigration policies seriously. The Trump admin has ramped up deportations and made getting caught as an illegal in America something people should actually be afraid of rather than something you get rewarded for with hotel stays and free money. From Alligator Alcatraz to shame walk videos, its been truly glorious to see those who do nothing but take from everyone around them feel some consequences for those actions. This all started with Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem’s famous “leave now” self-deportation video. Pure Gold. Will go down forever in iconography.
1 The assassination of Charlie Kirk
I cannot overstate the significance of the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Kirk was more than a run-of-the-mill conservative activist. He was the leader of the most effective conservative political organization in the country and the only one appealing to young people who significantly contributed to Donald Trump’s victory. There is no question that Charlie Kirk was a future presidential candidate for the Republican party. Charlie Kirk was an evangelist as well as a conservative activist. Most of his work was focused dually on conservatism and spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. His violent, public, assassination changed the tides of politics likely forever. It is the most significant assassination since Martin Luther King Jr. President Trump has become hardened by the act. We all have. The conservatives will either rise from this together or we will kill our own because Charlie was our great unifier. I hope it is the former. Based on this year’s TPUSA event without Charlie, its to be seen.
